The Highlands region is an outstanding cultural universe. Its inhabitants, belonging to the Maya Kaqchiquel, Tzutujil, and Quiché groups, keep alive their cultures, the manifestations of which can be admired by the visitor. The greater part of the towns around lake Atitlan are of pre-Hispanic origin, such as Santiago Atitlán and its old settlement, Chuitinamit, but the layout now goes back to the Colonial period. 

Today, few markets in the world are as famous as the Chichicastenango market where thousands of persons come together on Thursdays and Sundays in an impressive spectacle which goes beyond mere trading. The day before market day, peasants from all region travel long distances, bringing their products with them. They spend the night in the arcades which surround the plaza, waiting for the market to start. Vegetables, fruits, grains, lime and soap blend with the handicrafts, particularly huipiles and wooden masks.

Day 01: Mon Arrival in Guatemala City 
Transfer to your hotel. 
Day 02: Tue Antigua 
Depart for Antigua for a Sightseeing tour of this colonial style city. Overnight.(B) 
Day03: Wed Lake Atitlan 
Morning transfer to Lake Atitlan, with a brief stop at the Archaeological Site of Iximche for a visit. Overnight in Panajachel.(B) 
Day 04: Thu Quetzaltenango
In the morning,launch excursion to Santiago Atitlan. In the afternoon, continue to Quetzaltenango for overnight.(B) 
Day 05: Fri Huehuetenango 
Visit the colorful open-air animal market of San Francisco El Alto, the Church of San Andres Xecul and beautiful Valley of Almolonga. Overnight in Huehuetenango.(B) 
Day 06: Sat Chichicastenango 
Visit the colorful open-air market of Todos Santos Cuchumatanes. In the afternoon continue to Chichicastenango for overnight.(B) 
Day 07: Sun Guatemala City 
Morning visit of the colorful open-air market of Chichicastenango and the Church of Santo Tomas. Continue back to Guatemala City.(B)
